EAT IT, TENNESSEE REVIEW

EAT IT, TENNESSEE

Mary BethSlider House Rules! It’s true.  You won’t find a better lunch spot on Division Street and you simply can’t beat the incredible lunchtime deal at Slider House. For $7.99 you get any two sliders on the menu and healthy portion of a side. Essentially, when you do the math, you get the side for free. But enough about the awesome lunch deal, let’s get to the food and the experience…

To set the scene, Slider House has a diner feel with red and chrome décor, but it’s much more eclectic than your typical diner. My favorite accent piece is an incredible painting of the four main characters of The Big Lebowski hung in the center of restaurant. I want that painting for my future den. Seriously, dude. Another signature feature is a huge stuffed bull head busting through the wall overtop the bar. Pretty badass for a place that serves tiny burgers… Continue reading

GOOD THINGS CAN HAPPEN AFTER MIDNIGHT — AND SLIDER HOUSE PROVES IT

Good things can happen after midnight — and Slider House proves it

Slider House Rules  | by Carrington Fox | Nashville Scene

The first time I heard the term “slider,” it was in reference to a White Castle burger — and, I assumed, the tiny rhomboid sandwich’s unctuous ability to slide down the esophagus with a minimum of mastication and/or peristalsis. You have to applaud the counterintuitive advertising genius that not only celebrated the burger’s nearly liquid consistency but turned it into a fast-food icon and a culinary staple of post-party dining.

Over the years, the term has come to refer to a broad class of diminutive sandwiches, from barbecue to grilled cheese, in which the defining characteristic is no longer the semi-solid state of the bread and meat but the portion size, which sources (OK, the Internet) pinpoint at around 3 inches long.

This breed of G-scale sandwich anchors the menu at Slider House on Division. The conjoined-sister restaurant to Soulshine Pizza serves about a dozen-and-a-half sammies stuffed with Angus beef, hot dogs, pork loin, fried chicken, bologna, cheese and mushrooms. For anyone who ever bellied up to the counter and wished for better late-night burgers, Slider House is the answer to your prayer.

There are three things you need to know about Slider House:

First, the sliders are served on buns from local bakery Provence. The soft, golden and mildly sweet bread grills up beautifully, meaning it can compensate for many shortcomings of fillings. (More on that later.)

Second, the joint serves from 11 a.m. until 3 a.m., with a full bar and roster of domestic, craft and imported beers (cans only) that can also compensate for many shortcomings of fillings.

And third. Forget third. Those two  READ MORE

WHAT TO ORDER AT 6 OF NASHVILLE’S NEWEST RESTAURANTS

Style Blueprint - 8/14/13

Another recently opened Midtown spot is The Slider House, located on Division adjacent to Soulshine Pizza Factory (yet another new eatery we’ll cover in a post sometime soon. Pizza, live music, great!). With such close proximity to Vandy, this place will definitely cater to the college crowd now that school’s back in session, but it’s the perfect place on a Friday night w/the fam, too. Be prepared for a crowded house on weekends and game days. And be prepared to be wowed by their burgers! They bill themselves as the “tiny sandwich emporium,” and we happily sampled a variety of their small sammies, ranging from the usual suspect, the beef slider, to some unexpected options, like the seared bologna slider with caramelized onions. The table favorites were The King Pin, a classic little burger with cheddar, red onion, tomato and lettuce on the softest Provence bun, and The Muchacha, a beef slider made with spicy jack cheese, jalapeños, pico and avocado. Two to three sliders a person, depending on your appetite, with some shared sides (we loved the fried pickles!) and a cold beer from their great menu of craft beers (all served in cans) is just about perfect! BURGERS FOR BLUES – FOX 17

WZTV FOX 17 | Stacy McCloud

In a first of it’s kind eating competition, eleven
men and one brave woman were split up into teams of six. On one side of
the table was the Nashville Fire Department and on the other, Nashville
Police. The goal was to stomach as many sliders as they could in 15
minutes. “I didn’t eat anything this morning. I’m ready to go” says Brad
Sloan of the NFD.

Neither team had much of a strategy, but they
didn’t talk a lot of smack. While this was a friendly competition, the
first responders say  Continue reading

BURGERS FOR BLUES: JULY 5TH AT 2PM

Come by The Slider House on July 5th at 2pm to watch the Nashville Fire and Police Department battle it out! The team of 6 that eats the most sliders in 15 minutes will be crowned the winner! But really, there’s no loser. Both teams are winners because they’ll be contributing to the Officer Down and Fallen Firefighters Foundations which were founded to provide financial assistance to families of public safety officers and firefighters who are seriously injured or killed in the line-of-duty and to provide resources to enhance their safety and welfare. This is the 1st annual event of hopefully many years to come!SliderHouseBurgersforBlues_990x400

FIRST BITE: THE SLIDER HOUSE

by Chris Chamberlain  on Mon, Jun 24 | NashvilleScene | Full Article

Sharing a wall, parking lot and at least one owner with Soulshine Pizza, The Slider House in Midtown seeks to fulfill the late-night munchie needs of Nashvllians as they spill out of bars in the area. With a last call for food at 3 a.m. scheduled NashviilleScene6.24.13to coincide with closing hours at marathon drinking spots, it might just be your go-to destination for late night cravings……

…As far as the food menu goes, it is exactly what you’d expect from a place called The Slider House. There are seven different beef sliders, small hamburgers with various toppings like barbecue sauce, mozzarella and prosciutto, or blue cheese and Benton’s bacon. I was impressed by the size of these maxi/mini burgers. They were definitely a handful and juicy enough to run down your forearm with every bite. The lunch special of your choice of any two sliders and what they call “a side car” for $7.99 should be a filling meal for just about anyone.

The side cars are accompaniments like fried pickles, hand-cut fries, chili of some excellent sweet potato wedges that I enjoyed on my visit. I had heard that the wedges could be a little undercooked, but these were crispy on the outside and pillowy inside and were some of the best I’ve had. Other slider options include a couple of vegetarian sandwiches featuring portobello and another which is a version of a grilled cheese Capri salad with a nice drizzle of balsamic on top. Pork loin, fried chicken and thick-sliced smoked bologna also make appearances as slider toppings in addition to a short list of what they call “Slider Dogs.”

The menu isn’t specific about all the sources of their ingredients, but they do claim to use local suppliers whenever possible, and the buns from Provence were a very nice touch. The sandwiches may be small, but the taste and the value at The Slider House are pretty big…..

THE FOOD BIZ: TINY SANDWICHES

Slider House makes debut in Midtown

Published June 13, 2013 by Dana Kopp Franklin | Nashville Post

Soulshine Pizza’s sister restaurant, The Slider House, has opened its doors in Midtown. Soulshine’s co-owner, Dave Wachtel III, launched The Slider House three weeks ago in the space adjacent to Soulshine, which has become a popular, party-happy pizza destination on Division Street.TheSliderHouseNashvillePost_6.13.13

The Slider House specializes in the little sandwiches called sliders. At the top of the menu are beef sliders, basically little burgers, composed of 3-ounce angus beef patties with toppings. The Shotgun, for example, is a patty topped with house-made chili, cheddar cheese and pickled slaw.

The Southern Comfort, meanwhile, is a spicy chicken slider — a cute little fried chicken filet with a Sriracha-and-honey glaze.

The menu even includes vegetarian incarnations, like the Grill Cheese Capri, which features an oval of fresh mozzarella, a slice of roma tomato and a drizzle of balsamic vinegar. There’s also a lineup of hot dog sliders, made with mini all-beef franks.

Each slider is served on a diminutive Provence bun, with the price ranging from $3.50 to $4.25. At lunchtime Monday through Friday, you can get two sliders and a side dish for $7.99.

The Slider House has a full bar and also an interesting list of beers, including a slate of American craft beers and imports served in cans. There’s a patio out front and garage doors that roll up to the summer air. The Slider House (1907 Division) is open 11 a.m. to 3 a.m. daily.
